What happened to the old Microsoft Photo Editor?

I want my MS Photo Editor back!

    Let me start by saying
What happened to the old Microsoft Photo Editor?

I detest all photo programs other than the old MS Photo Editor. I managed to migrate it thru to my Vista computer but, now I am using Win 7 x64 and it just won't work. Does anyone know a work around for this? I've read that it can be used on x32. I've got the exe file in a folder in Program Files and I've changed compatibility to Win 7 but, still doesn't recognize file types.

I guess I shouldn't be too surprised the knuckleheads at MS took away everyone's favorite photo editor. I don't need to organize, sort, search, file, send, resend, forward ANY picture on my computer. I need some quick necessary editing on occasion. Photo Editor was perfect!

    End of Rant

So, does anyone know how I can get this to work without overtaxing my mediocre computer skills?

Out of sheer interest, I tried the MS Photo Editor link (the first one in the above quote) and it installs just fine under Windows 7 64-bit.

if you download windows live essentials then leave all the other programs unchecked for install except windows live photo gallery ( i think thats what its called) then you will have your old photo viewer / editor, set it as default for opening photos and your good to go

    Windows Live Essentials: Photo Gallery
    its even better than before.

I installed it just fine. Getting it to work is another story. Does it open pics for you? When I open Photo Editor I get: 'No file format information can be found in the Registry'. So you know of some other setting I should try? Thanks.

It opened images without any difficulty as per this screenshot.

You might want to run a system file check as it would appear your system registry is corrupted, which is not really a Microsoft Photo Editor problem.

Have a read through this tutorial: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Just out of interest, what image type are you trying to open?

Mostly jpegs. I'm going to try the system file checker. Thanks so much! And to think I've only had this new computer for less than a month

Just ran system file checker and everything was ok. Ran it as admin but path was C:\users\me> instead of C:\Windows\system32> like in the tutorial. The 'target' and 'start in' paths were correct according to tutorial. Shame I'm totally obsessed with this now....

Where is my Microsoft Photo Editor?

Expand Office Tools and select Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

What is the old Microsoft Photo Editor?

Microsoft Office Picture Manager was included as part of Office 2010 and earlier versions.

What happened to Microsoft Office Picture Manager?

Microsoft added the Photos app as a modern replacement to the Microsoft Office Picture Manager, so newer versions of MS Office no longer include the Picture Manager. However, if you've gotten comfortable making quick edits with the Picture Manager, you can still install it as a standalone app.

Did Office 2010 have a photo editor?

Microsoft Office Picture Manager (formerly Microsoft Picture Library) is a raster graphics editor introduced in Microsoft Office 2003 and included up to Office 2010. It is the replacement to Microsoft Photo Editor introduced in Office 97 and included up to Office XP.
