Sie haben in Safari am iPhone oder iPad eine Datei heruntergeladen und können aber nicht sehen, wo diese abgelegt wurde? Kein Problem, denn seit iOS 11 werden alle Downloads in einem zentralen Ordner gesammelt. Wo dieser liegt und wie Sie ihn finden, erfahren Sie in unserer Anleitung.

Laden Sie zunächst einmal eine Datei mit Safari herunter. Übrigens: Wenn Sie oben rechts auf das Download-Icon tippen, können Sie den Fortschritt der Daten-Übertragung ansehen.

Verlassen Sie Safari und öffnen Sie die App „Dateien“. Auf der obersten Ebene dieser App sehen Sie eine Reihe von Speicherorten, auf die Ihr iPhone zugreifen kann. An welchem Speicherort Sie Ihre Downloads genau finden, hängt davon ab, ob Sie eingestellt haben, dass Downloads nur auf Ihrem Gerät oder auch in der Cloud gespeichert werden. Bei lokalen Downloads tippen Sie auf „Auf meinem iPhone“, bei Downloads in der Cloud auf „iCloud Drive“. Wenn Sie sich nicht sicher sind, sehen Sie einfach an beiden Speicherorten nach.

Tippen Sie nun auf „Downloads“.

Hier werden Ihnen alle Dateien angezeigt, die Sie mit Ihren iPhone heruntergeladen haben. Tippen Sie auf eine Datei, wird diese in einer Vorschau geöffnet, über die Sie den Download dann auch weiter teilen können.

1. Laden Sie eine Datei mit Safari herunter.

Das auf der WWDC 2019 vorgestellte iPa­dOS bringt eine Desk­top-ähn­liche Ver­sion von Safari auf alle Tablets, die mit dem neuen Betrieb­ssys­tem kom­pat­i­bel sind. Die neue Soft­ware erscheint zwar erst im Herb­st, Tester kon­nten aber bere­its einen ersten Blick auf die neuen Funk­tio­nen wer­fen: So kannst Du zum Beispiel Dateien direkt aus Safari her­aus auf Dein iPad herun­ter­laden. Auch die Ver­wal­tung dieser Dateien ist dann direkt im Brows­er möglich.

Um unter iPa­dOS in Safari eine Datei herun­terzu­laden, gehe fol­gen­der­maßen vor: Öffne die Brows­ing-App auf Deinem iPad. Besuche die Web­seite, die die Datei anbi­etet. Tippe dort auf den Down­load-But­ton und bestätige, dass Du die Datei herun­ter­laden möcht­est.

Wie am Mac kannst Du die Down­loads direkt in Safari ver­wal­ten: Tippe im Brows­er oben rechts auf das Down­load-Icon (blaues Sym­bol mit einem Pfeil nach unten). Anschließend öffnet sich ein Pop-up-Fen­ster, das alle zulet­zt getätigten Down­loads auflis­tet. Falls Du einen Down­load vorzeit­ig abge­brochen hast, kannst Du den Prozess von hier aus direkt fort­set­zen, falls Du es Dir doch anders über­legt hast.

Um eine herun­terge­ladene Datei einzuse­hen, tippe auf das Lupen-Sym­bol daneben. Anschließend öffnet sich der Down­load-Ord­ner Dein­er iCloud, über den Du die Datei öff­nen kannst. Starte alter­na­tiv am iPad die Dateien-App. Du find­est die kür­zlich herun­terge­ladene Datei dann unter „iCloud Dri­ve | Down­loads“

Tippe auf „Löschen“, um alle Down­loads aus der Über­sicht in Safari zu löschen. Über diesen Weg kannst Du auch alle nicht been­de­ten Down­loads ent­fer­nen. Die bere­its herun­terge­lade­nen Dateien bleiben aber natür­lich weit­er­hin sich­er in Dein­er iCloud ver­wahrt.

Unlike PCs and Macs, the iPad has no designated Downloads folder where all downloaded files immediately go. And, the iOS file system isn't as easy to browse as an Android file system.

A downloaded file's location largely depends on the app you're in when you access that file, although things have become a little easier with the Files app's introduction in iOS 11. 

Save your files to a location you can easily find again. While you have many options, here's how to save files from commonly used apps.

Frequently, you'll want to save an attachment from an email you receive. Here's how to choose where the file goes. 

1. Open the relevant email.

2. Tap the Attachment icon.

3. Tap Options in the top right of the screen.

4. Choose where to send the file. Depending on the file, you can usually tap Save Image for images, Copy to iBooks for PDFs, or Save to Files to save it to the Files app for general use.

   Tap the More icon to find more options. 

5. If you tap Save to Files, choose to either save the file to your iCloud Drive or directly to the iPad, then tap Add.

   If you want to access the file from other iOS or Mac devices, tap iCloud Drive. 

6. You've successfully saved the file to your chosen location.

Here's how to save a file from the default web browser, Safari. 

1. Open the file in Safari.

2. Tap Options.

3. Choose where to save it. 

   You may need to scroll to the right to find more options such as Save to Files, depending on how many apps are available to use the file. 

Saving an image is a simple process.

1. Open the image in Safari.

2. Hold your finger to the image, then release it after a moment or two to bring up the dialog box.

3. Tap Save Image to save the image to your Photos folder.

If you've downloaded a file and you're unsure where it went, check some of the likely locations.

If you're searching for a downloaded image file, it's almost certainly stored within your Photos app. 

If you tap Copy to iBooks, PDF files are sent or copied to iBooks so you can easily browse the files as you would a book or manual. 

Any other files likely ended up in the Files App. This app brings together all your files across iCloud, so it can also include documents from your Mac or other iOS devices. 

If you have third-party apps such as Google Drive or Dropbox installed on your iPad, they'll show up on the Share menu when you're saving a file. Remember to check there if you prefer to use a non-Apple-based solution for your file storage.
