Long Edge Binding means the finished book is portrait

Short Edge binding means the finished book will be landscape.

So for example, assume you have a 5.5" x 8.5" booklet. With long edge binding, the flat size of the booklet will be 8.5" x 11" and the binding will occur on the 8.5" side. With short edge binding, the flat size of the booklet will be 5.5" x 17" and the binding will occur on the 5.5" side

1. Open your Office Document.
2. Click on File in the top left corner of the screen.
3. Click Print and select one of the printers that will perform duplex printing.
4. Click on the Properties button under the Layout tab.

5. Choose either Flip on Long Edge or Flip on Short Edge and click OK.

   • If your page is set up as Portrait, choose Long Edge. 
   • If your page is set up as Landscape, choose Short Edge. 
6. Click OK again to send your work to the printer.

• Open the ‘Print’ dialog. You can go to the menu and click on print or use a keyword shortcut by typing Ctrl + P. 
• Now, go to the Properties Button and Select Landscape orientation after clicking the Orientation drop-down menu. 
• Go to the Duplex drop-down menu and select Short Edge. Now, to go back to your print dialog Click OK.
• Now choose Pages under the option ‘Range and Copies’. 
• Enter the number of pages to be printed in this order

• Lastly, click on the option ‘Print’.

Long edge binding is done in a portrait mode which allows you to turn the pages side-to-side like you do in a book. Whereas, short edge binding is done a landscape mode allows the pages of the brochure, notepad, calendar or booklet to be oriented correctly when you flip the pages vertically. A document with a short edge binding will be wider than taller whereas in a long edge binding the length will be more than the width.
