Why link is not opening in Chrome?
If links are not opening up in the browser, or if two tabs/windows are opening on each click, try the following: 1) Change your default browser to another browser and then change it back. In some scenarios after a browser update, the OS setting for the default browser fails to get updated.

Links won't open in web browser
Sometimes when I double-click on an internet shortcut, it will not open in an already-opened web browser.
But if I close the browser and then try the shortcut again, it works. The same is true for hyperlinks in an Excel spreadsheet.
Sometimes a link does not work. But if I close the browser then the link works. All of that is sometimes ... because at other times there's no problem.
Is there a fix for this?
I'm using Chrome browser.

If your using Windows 10. Go to Settings/Apps/Default Apps and make sure the default Web browser says Google Chrome. Now click on the link right below it that says "Choose default apps by file type". Scroll down to .URL and make sure the app out to the side says "Internet Browser" and not Google Chrome. This will make sure that whatever URL link you click on goes to your default browser.New 01 Sep 2021 #3
I made those settings long ago. The settings are correct. As stated in my original post, the problem is intermittent.
It works fine ... and then sometimes it doesn't.
Most likely problems with opening hyperlinks are connected with either the security restrictions of your Internet browser that doesn't allow opening pop-up windows, or with your Flash player plug-in that prevents you from opening URLs in local Flash files. following:
A trusted location here is a file or a folder that uses milder security settings and thus allows navigating between the hyperlinks in it.
Note: the instructions above are only applicable when your Flash interaction is stored on your local computer. After being uploaded to the Internet, hyperlinks will work regardless of the security restrictions on both your browser and the Flash player plug-in.
