The new Apple Watch Series 7 will be available starting October 15, Apple announced today. Online orders will begin this Friday, October 8.
Specifically, those prerelease orders will start at 5 am PDT, one week before the watch hits Apple's brick-and-mortar stores globally. In most cases, preordered Apple devices show up at your door no earlier than the same day that they arrive on store shelves.
Previous leaks from Jon Prosser and Hermes indicated that the Watch would go up for order this week and begin shipping the next, so Apple is confirming what we already suspected.
The Apple Watch Series 7 has a bigger screen within a redesigned chassis that puts an emphasis on "a unique refractive edge" (Apple's words). That means the screen curves around the edges to transition into the rounded sides of the Watch.
It also means the Watch has less gap space between the screen and the casing.
The Watch will be available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, up slightly from previous models. But bands made for the Apple Watch Series 6 will continue to be supported.
Apple also says the new Watch is more durable and resistant to the elements than its predecessor.
As usual, the wearable will be available in a variety of materials and colors, with numerous accessory and band choices at launch.
All that said, there are no major new health-tracking features in this iteration of the Watch. Some reports have claimed those are coming in next year's update.
The Apple Watch Series 7 starts at $399 but can be much more expensive depending on the customization options you select. It will exist alongside the Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 3 in Apple's lineup this year.
