Huawei GT2 Pro vs Samsung Watch 3
Huawei GT2 Pro vs Samsung Watch 3

Verdict: While both watches have their strong suits, Huawei’s Watch GT 2 Pro’s features make it a better buy than Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3.

Its made of tougher, lighter titanium, has a nicer-feeling ceramic back and a tougher, scratch-resistant sapphire glass protection, as well as more comprehensive (and accurate health tracking suites for both amateur and professional runners, triathletes, and other active individuals.

Battery life is also far superior on the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro VS the Galaxy Watch 3, with battery life measured in weeks VS hours on the Galaxy Watch 3.

Price is also a factor here, and despite using more expensive materials in its build and construction and offering far longer battery life, the Watch GT 2 Pro is priced at just Php 11,990, while the Galaxy Watch 3 is priced at Php 17,990.

Want to upgrade to a sexy smartwatch but can’t decide on Huawei’s Watch GT 2 Pro or Galaxy Watch 3? We gotcha fam: today we’ll be taking a look at the two watches to see which one delivers the best mix of design, features, and most importantly, battery life. Both smartwatches have plenty to offer you, but as they say, they can be only one.

Both devices are the cream of the crop for Huawei and Samsung, sporting the very best when it comes to both design and the materials used for their entire wearable line but as they say, the devil is in the details.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 uses a steel case and comes in two sizes: 45mm and 42mm. It uses a rotating bezel for navigation, and its display (1.4-inches for the 45mm version and 1.2 for the 41mm version) is protected by Gorilla Glass DX. There are two additional buttons on the side for navigation. The watch comes with a leather strap upon purchase and can take straps from similarly-sized watches.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro uses a metal chassis too but in the form of a much more premium metal: titanium. Titanium is the usual go-to material for luxury watches since it’s incredibly tough and light, and it’s surprising that a smartwatch like the Watch GT 2 Pro is able to incorporate it while keeping its incredibly aggressive price point.

That’s not all either, as the 1.39-inch OLED display on its 47mm body is protected by sapphire glass, which makes the display of the watch incredibly scratch resistant. Topping all of that off is a ceramic back.

Just like the Galaxy Watch 3, the Watch GT 2 Pro has removable straps that allow users to replace the silicone straps with something better and is fully compatible with aftermarket watch straps made for their size. There are two buttons on the side to assist with navigation and scrolling.

Software

The Watch GT 2 Pro uses Huawei’s LiteOS to keep things running smoothly, while the Galaxy Watch 3 uses Tizen OS.

There’s a lot of differences for both OSes, but they’re both similar in that there’s little third-party support for both of them.

You do get a bit of third party support for Tizen in the form of a few additional apps while you’re basically stuck with whatever apps that Huawei offers you in LiteOS, but in truth, it’s a little more complicated than that.

LiteOS has a LOT of features and tracking options built-in already, with support for dozens of activities including common activities like running, biking as well as not-so-common stuff like cross-country skiing, rowing, and triathlon modes.

Tracking and features

While both watches offer tracking and health-related features, Huawei’s offering has a lot more than just basic tracking.

While both watches have running mode tracking, for example, the Watch GT 2 Pro has multiple running courses available for a wide variety of users, ranging from basic runs for beginners, to fat-burning runs as well as HIIT runs for more advanced runners.

This extends to things like GPS connectivity as well, and while both watches have GPS capability allowing for detailed tracking metrics without your phone, the Watch GT 2 Pro takes it up a notch by giving you sunrise/sunset, moonrise/moonset times as well as tide and moon phases for added safety when swimming outdoors.

There are also multiple workout modes available here – there are virtually no gaps in the Watch GT 2 Pro’s coverage in terms of the exercises and workouts it can track, making it THE perfect watch for people who are serious about being fit.

The Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro also has a more accurate 6-in-1 LED lens and sapphire glass for its heart sensor, as well as a discrete non-visible light monitoring method that will not affect the user’s sleeping quality at night.

Battery life

Huawei’s wearables have incredible battery life, and the Watch GT 2 Pro isn’t an exception to this rule. While Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 3 only manages to squeeze out a day and a half at the most, Huawei’s Watch GT 2 Pro can easily stay on for at least a week on a single charge.

In fact, Huawei claims that their watch is able to stay on for 14 days, though that’s more on the optimistic side of things as far as battery longevity goes.

The point here is that the Watch GT 2 Pro’s battery life is measured in days, if not weeks, compared to the Galaxy Watch 3.

Both watches are capable of wireless charging too, which was recently added to the Watch GT 2 Pro. Samsung’s offering is a little picky though with what wireless charger it’ll interact with even if they use the Qi standard, which isn’t the case with the Watch GT 2 Pro.
