How to restart an iPhone X without touching the screen

The actual method to Reboot or Hard Reset iPhone varies, depending on the model of your device. You can find below the steps to Force Restart or Hard Reset different models of iPhone.

Force Restart or Hard Reset iPhone

A Hard Reset, which is also known as “Force Restart” or “Force Reboot” is usually employed when iPhone becomes frozen, unresponsive and appears to be suffering from unexplained glitches.

While a Hard Reset can be trusted to fix unresponsive or buggy devices, it causes an abrupt shutdown of ongoing processes, which can sometimes lead to damage or corruption of software and system files on your device.

Hence, you should resort to Hard Reset only when all other troubleshooting methods have failed to fix problems on your device or if the device has become totally unresponsive.

Tip: The easiest way to Hard Reset any model of iPhone is by using Assistive Touch (See the last method below).

1. Hard Reset iPhone 8/X/11/12/13

The Current Models of iPhones (iPhone 8 and above) do not have a Home button, which has made Apple release a new method to Force Restart iPhone.

1. Press the Volume Up button and quickly release it. Next, press the Volume Down button and quickly release it.

2. Next, press and hold the Power button (Side button), until the screen goes black and you see Apple logo appearing on the screen.

3. Release the Power button and wait for your iPhone to completely restart.

The above steps can be used to fix an iPhone that is freezing, becoming unresponsive, glitchy or not running as expected.

2. Reboot iPhone 7/7 Plus

In iPhone 7, Apple replaced the Home button with a non-moving version, which resulted in a new procedure to Force Restart iPhone 7.

Press and Hold Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time, until the display goes dark and you see Apple logo appearing on the screen of your device.

Release both buttons and wait for iPhone to completely restart and display the Lock screen.

3. Hard Reset iPhone 6/6S and Earlier Models

As mentioned above, older models of iPhone with an actual Home button can be Force Restarted by pressing and holding both Power and Home buttons for about 10 seconds.

Press and Hold Power (Side) and Home buttons at the same time, until you see iPhone starting with Apple Logo.

Release both buttons and wait as iPhone completely restarts and displays the Lock screen.

4. Hard Reset iPhone (Any Model) Without Using Buttons

As mentioned above, the easiest way to Force Restart or Hard Reset iPhone is by using the Restart option as available in the Assistive Touch Menu.

However, this method can only be used if you are able to use your device. It cannot be used if your device has become unresponsive.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch > move the toggle next to AssistiveTouch to ON position.

You should now see the virtual Assistive Touch button at bottom right corner of the screen. Tap on the AssistiveTouch button and it will open the Assistive Touch Menu.

From the Assistive Touch Menu, navigate to Device > More and tap on the Restart option.

On the confirmation pop-up, tap on the Restart option to confirm.

Once you tap on the Restart option, you will immediately see the screen of your iPhone going black for a few seconds and Restarting with Apple Logo.

Have you ever broken the screen of your iPhone? Or have you experienced when your screen started malfunctioning and you can’t get to a mobile phone repair service or do anything to fix it? There can be a lot of reasons why your screen suddenly stopped functioning aside from dropping your phone. The common practice when this happens is to restart your iPhone or just simply turn it off.

Usually, you turn off your iPhone by long-pressing the Lock/Unlock button at the right side of your device. Your screen should prompt you with a Slide to Power Off slider. You would have to use your screen to slide the toggle to finally turn off your iPhone. In addition, getting online assignment help will help you write a paper if you have any issue with a screen. So what if you can’t use the screen to turn off your iPhone because it’s broken?

How to Turn Off iPhone Without Screen (with Home Button)

Apple has thought about this possible situation and designed their iPhones considering this. There are two ways to turn off your iPhone without a touch screen depending on the iPhone model you own. If you’re using an iPhone that still has a Home button, here are the steps to take to turn off your iPhone without using your touch screen:

  1. Press and hold the Lock/Unlock button located either at the top or on the right side of your iPhone. The location of this button depends on the model of your iPhone.
  2. Simultaneously, press and hold the Home button located below the screen of your iPhone. Both buttons should be long-pressed and held at the same time.
  3. After a few seconds, your iPhone screen should turn off. Once the screen shuts down, release the two buttons. Continuing to hold them down when the screen has already shut off will reset your iPhone.

Now, what if the iPhone you’re currently using doesn’t have the Home button anymore? Don’t worry, there is another way to turn off your iPhone without using the touch screen.

There are various reasons why your screen may stop responding such as faulty updates and crashing apps. Your screen may also just be broken. If you find yourself in this situation, here are the steps to take to turn off your iPhone without using the touch screen:

  1. Press and release the Volume Up button. Do not long-press or hold the button.
  2. Do the same to the Volume Down button. Press and immediately release.
  3. Press and hold the Lock/Unlock button until your iPhone screen turns off, turns on, and shuts off again. Once the Apple logo disappears from the screen for the second time, release the Lock/Unlock button.

How to Turn Off iPhone Without Using Any Buttons

It is also possible for your screen to work fine but for your buttons to stop working. If such an issue arises, there is another way to turn off your iPhone without using any buttons on your device. Follow these steps to turn off your iPhone using just your screen:

  1. Open the Settings app and select General.
  2. At the bottom of the list, you should find and select the Shut Down option. This will prompt the screen to show the Slide to Power Off slider.
  3. Simply slide the slide to finally turn off your iPhone.

And there you have it! These are the many ways you can turn off your iPhone when your screen stops working or breaks. Of course, it’s a given that you’re supposed to take good care of your devices to prevent any issues and to prolong its lifespan. However, it’s also understandable that there are some situations beyond your control that can affect the overall integrity of your iPhone. Hopefully, this post has helped you with this iPhone issue.

To turn off the X with no touchscreen, quickly press and release volume up, then volume down, then hold the power button until screen blacks out and then bounce on the power button again (dead without touchscreen). Found it here by trial and error…

A confirmation pop-up was stuck on my screen and I didn’t know how to get rid of it. I happen to come across this page and it fixed my problem.

the screen doesnt work so these steps are wrong, these different procedures all just reset the phone and it turns back on again, I cannot slide it off because the screen is broken, holding both buttons for any amount of time restarts and does not shut off. this article isn’t helpful and is generally misleading

    also, danny
I don’t know why you’re yelling at him when you clearly didn’t read the first two titles of the instructions which say “how to shut off without a screen”, (without a screen is key here) which then goes on to instruct you to slide your touch screen or go into a menu. This is illogical and super annoying, it’s probably a mistake but it’s so glaring and obvious that it’s actually pretty frustrating

I have the solution. This is the first time I have ever pitched in on one of these, but the answer to this question has been so hard to find and there seems to be hundred of JABRONI’S like Aryan who provide “solutions” that require you to use your screen.

And his 3rd and final technique (the one he added in after serving up two piles of poop) also fails to provide a solution.

But “fret not”, I have the answer.

Do step 3, but hold down the sleep button until the phone once the screen shuts off, turns on, and shuts off again. When the apple disappears and the screen goes black a second time (like my ex-wife), release the button.

I was having the same issue with an iphone8, and found the key for this hack was to ensure the phone was “awake” before momentarily pressing the Up volume then Down volume buttons and finally pressing and holding the Sleep-Wake button. Within 10 seconds the phone shut off then began to reboot. Once back up all was working once again.

How do I force shutdown my iPhone X?

Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

How can I restart my phone without touchscreen?

Press and hold the volume down key and the power/side key for seven seconds. It's really as simple as that!
