I saw that people are a bit confused about the birth story as they didnt show it properly
so here it is
Both Ambika and Ambalika were wives of KingVichitravirya of Hastinapura, who, however, died childless. Anxious to ensure the continuation of the royal lineage, Vichitravirya's mother Satyavati called another of her sons, the ascetic Vyasa (born through Sage Parashara), to bestow motherhood upon the two widowed queens. Vyasa, as a hermit practising severe austerities, was unpleasant and even fearsome in appearance, so much so that Ambika shut her eyes tight when she saw him, and her sister Ambalika went pale with fear. As a result, the sons they bore were respectively the blind Dhritarashtra, and the sickly albino Pandu, neither of whom qualified to become kings.
Thereafter, Satyavati asked Vyasa to grant a son to Ambika, to ensure that at least one of the boys born would be eligible in all respects. However Ambika sent the lady-in-waiting to Vyasa, resulting the birth of Vidura. This dutiful lady not being frightened by Vyasa appearance had a normal healthy son born to her. Thus Vidura was born. He was raised and educated byBhishma as the half-brother of Dhritarashtra and Pandu. However, since neither of his parents was of the blood royal, he was made counsellor to his brothers, the kings, rather than a king himself. Upon the blind Dhritarashtra's succession, he took on the reins of government for all practical purposes, guiding his brother's government untilDuryodhana came of age, when he was consigned to a secondary role.
After death of Vichitravirya the whole kuru family disappointed for thinking about their next generation because the wifes of Vichitravirya had no son when Vichitravirya was died.
Bhishma adviced the concept of 'niyog' :
When Vichitravirya was died , for next generation Satyavati requested to Bhishma that he sex with Ambika And Ambalika and gave birth theirs son. Bhishma told Satyavati that it was not possible but he gave advice to Satyavati the concept of 'Niyog' .
What was 'Niyog' :
Satyavati asked what is 'Niyog'? Bhishma told Satyavati ' in purana if husband died but he has no son then high quality sage or gods can sex with the died husband's wife for giving birth son and protect husband's generation . In this condition the new born son is called of died husband's son and protects his family.
Satyavati revealed her secret before marriage and told about her son ' Veda Vasa '
Knowing about ' Niyog ' Satyavati told her relationship before marriage and she had a son named sage Veda Vyasa. Bhishma told that it was good news and called him for niyog.
Birth of Dhritarastra , Pandu and Vidura :
For calling from his mother sage Veda Vyasa came in Hastinapur and accepted the proposal of Niyog and sex with Ambika , Ambalika and a lady servant. As a result Ambika gave birth Dhritarastra , Ambalika gave birth Pandu , and a lady servant gave birth gave birth Vidura.
