Goldy Brar, whose real name is Satinder Singh, is a close aide of Lawrence Bishnoi. Brar, a native of Faridkot district had met Bishnoi during their college years.

Brar has claimed responsibility for Moosewala's murder in a Facebook post. In it Brar says, "I, along with Sachin Bishnoi Dhattaranwali, Lawrence Bishnoi group, take responsibility for the killing of Sidhu Moose Wala. His name came up in connection with the murder of Vicky Middukhera and Gurlal Brar and despite this, the police did nothing."

Vicky Middukhera alias Vikramjit Singh Middukhera, was a Youth Akali Dal leader who was shot dead in Mohali in August 2021.

In September 2021, Brar had taken responsibility for another murder via a Facebook post. The deceased was identified as Sham Lal, alias Shama, who had five criminal cases lodged against him. Brar claimed that Shama “used to support and pass on information to rival groups”. He alleged that the bullets used in the murder of Gurlal Brar, a former student leader and member of Bishnoi gang who was killed in 2020 in Chandigarh, were supplied by Shama.

Brar reportedly fled to Canada in 2021 after he was named in the murder of a Youth Congress leader, Gurlal Pehalwan.

A former state-level discus thrower, Harjinder Singh Bhullar was also known as Vicky Gounder. While ‘Vicky’ was a childhood nickname, he earned the title ‘Gounder’ from his friends because he would spend long hours on the ground honing his sports skill. But, discus is not what made Gounder famous — guns did.

Between 2010 and 2015, Gounder was one of the top gangsters in Punjab. Near two dozen cases were filed against him for murder, kidnapping and robbery. Gounder and his gang’s crimes were not limited to one state. He was also a wanted man in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh with a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.

Gounder came from a humble background. He was born in Sarawan Bodla village of Muktsar district. He was the eldest of the three children in the family. In 2004, his father Mehal Singh sent him to the Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar with the hope his son would someday become a national-level discus champion. In 2007, he got an employment offer with the Border Security Force (BSF) as a head constable but he did not take up the job. Instead, he swung to the other end of the spectrum — became a gangster.

The men who introduced him to the world of crime were Navpreet Singh aka Lovely Baba and gangster Prema Lahoriya. The three spent a lot of time together in Jalandhar.

Lahoriya had a friend Sukha Kahlwan, who was also a gangster. Since Lovely Baba and Vicky Gounder were thick with Lahoriya, they too befriended Kahlwan. But, eventually, there was a clash of ego and Kahlwan killed Baba.

An angry Gounder then pledged he would revenge his friend’s death and kill Kahlwan. Lahoriya too stood with Gounder against Kahlwan. After five years, in January 2015, Gounder killed Kahlwan who was then being transported to the Nabha jail in Jalandhar after a court hearing. Later that year, Punjab police arrested Gounder. He was imprisoned for the murder of Kahlwan and also charged as a co-accused in the murder of gangster-turned-politician Jaswinder Singh Rocky.

But Kahlwan wouldn’t stay long in prison. His friend Lahoriya carried out a jailbreak in November 2016 to free Kahlwan. Six prisoners, which included five gangsters and a Khalistani militant, escaped from the Nabha jail. For the next two years Gounder and Lahoria kept running from the police with hideouts in Jalandhar, Moga, Mansa, Gurdaspur in Punjab and Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, and Yamunanagar in Haryana. Finally, in January 2018, the police managed to locate them near Punjab-Rajasthan border. When the police raided the hideout, Gounder and Lahoria, along with another gangster, opened fire at the police. Gounder and Lahoria were killed in the encounter.

Punjab gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan was born in Dhahan village near Nurpur Bedi in Punjab's Ropar. Dhahan now figures among 17 A-category gangsters marked by the Punjab Police. Dhahan gained notoriety after taking responsibility for shooting and injuring Punjabi singer Parmish Verma in Mohali in April 2018.

Following the shooting, Dhahan had uploaded a status on his Facebook page, along with a picture of himself holding a pistol and another picture of Verma with a cross drawn on it.

“Mein dilpreet singh dhahan sariya nu dasna chaunda k ajj parmish verma de goliya bazian apa mariya.(I, Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, want to tell everyone that I am behind the shooting of Parmish Verma),” the post read.

Verma wasn't the only singer on his radar: Dhahan had also made an extortion call of Rs 10 lakh to popular singer-actor Gippy Grewal. Earlier in 2017, Dhahan was caught on camera shooting at a Hoshiarpur sarpanch outside a gurdwara in Chandigarh.

Not just extortion, Dhahan may have also been involved in a gang war: He is suspected to have arranged shooters and weapons from behind bars to kill his rival Lawrence Bishnoi’s close aide Gurlal Brar, who was shot dead outside a mall in Chandigarh in 2020.

Dhahan was named in almost 30 criminal cases, including three murders and nine attempts to murder cases, in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Maharashtra. Dhahan was arrested in a police encounter in July 2018 and is presently lodged in Ropar Central Jail.

Sukhbir Singh Kahlwan, popularly known as Sukha Kahlon, was a young but dreaded gangster in Punjab. He identified himself a ‘sharp shooter’ and loved to pose with guns. From murders to robbery, Kahlon had about 40 cases filed against him in Punjab, Haryana, West Bengal and Rajasthan. His gang, which has continued operations after his death, is most active in Doaba and Majha in Punjab.

Born in 1987, Kahlon was from Kapurthala in Punjab. He was often caught in violent activities in school. He eventually gave up education and picked up the gun. His father Sudarshan Singh, who was a taxi driver, and mother Harjinder Kaur migrated to the US but could not take their two sons. Then 17-year-old Sukha was involved in a fight, which had led to a police case. The crime record meant the cancellation of his passport application. His elder brother was over 18-years old and couldn't go as a dependent.

At the age of 21, Sukha got married and went to Australia with his wife. However, since he was unemployed, he did not enjoy the stay and returned to India. After returning to India, he made accomplices in the world of crime.

Kahlon went on to become a celebrated gangster with thousands of social media followers. He would often put up pictures of him beating others on his Facebook page. In his heydays, many criminals joined him making the Sukha Kahlon gang one of the most feared in Punjab. Sukha had multiple Facebook accounts which were regularly updated with violent comments and photos glorifying gun culture.

In fact, in 2013, two videos from prison had gone viral on his Facebook fan page titled 'Sukha kahlon sharp shooter’. One clip showed him brutally beating up a fellow prisoner inside the Kapurthala jail. While the other video, titled 'Rocky Kaand’, showed another victim being beaten with sticks outside the jail.

In 2012, he was imprisoned in the Nabha jail but managed to escape with the help of his friends while being taken to a court.

But when he was out of prison he came very close to death. While on the run in 2012, he met a gangster named Yamin from Uttar Pradesh. The two apparently joined forces to rob a jewellery shop. But after the robbery, Yamin decided to kill Sukha and take his share too. Sukha's throat is believed to have been slit and he was thrown into the Yamuna River. But despite the attempt to kill him, Sukha survived and managed to reach a hospital. A few months later, on 6 November 2012, he was arrested from Howrah in West Bengal where he was still undergoing treatment.

His accomplices once again planned to free him but were arrested. Kahlon’s murder of Lovely Baba in 2008 would eventually come to haunt him. In 2015, Vicky Gounder and his gang killed the 28-year-old Kahlon while he was being taken back to jail from a court hearing. In an extremely macabre turn of events, Gounder is believed to have danced around Kahlon’s body after killing him. By killing Kahlon, Gounder avenged his friend Lovely Baba’s murder.

Soon after the news of Kahlon’s death, his fan pages on Facebook were flooded with condolence messages. The Punjab police even set up a special task force to arrest those operating the fan pages. Sukha Kahlon was such a celebrated gangster, a movie was made about him in 2020, which the Punjab government promptly banned for allegedly promoting violence. The film originally titled 'Sukha Kahlon' was renamed 'Shooter'. The film was eventually released on 14 January 2022.

The death of Sidhu Moose Wala is increasingly getting linked to a turf war between the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and the Davinder Bambhia gang. Even though the notorious gangster Bambhia was killed in an encounter in 2016, his gang has continued operations with gangster Gaurav Lucky Patial at the helm. Patiyal is believed to be running the organisation from Armenia. The Bambhia gang had claimed responsibility for the killing of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera, who used to work for the Lawrence Bishnoi group. One theory that's floating is that Moose Wala's murder was revenge for Middukhera's killing. It is suspected Moose Wala had given protection to those who killed Middukhera. A social media post purportedly by the Davinder Bambhia gang saying Bishnoi and Brar shouldn't have killed Moose Wala has widely been shared online.

Davinder Bambhia gang was set up by Bambhia whose original name was Davinder Singh Sindhu. The gang has been involved in extorting money from industrialists and invested in music industry.
